Temperature Gauge Faulty?

Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum and to being a Ford owner so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.

Bought a 2012 Ford Focus last week and noticed that when I turn on the ignition that the temperature gauge goes straight to 70 degrees (Centre) even when engine is stone cold.

Is this right? Or it something faulty?

Faulty sensor.  Should take short period on a cold engine to get to middle.

When you say a 'short time'.....how long is that?

Can the temp sensor be tested?

From cold start a drive to my local supermarket,(dependent on outside ambient temperature) it has reached 'normal' temperature - 7 minutes...

takes about 15 mins on my 2.0 tdci to even reach a quarter even tho heater warm. hardly ever seen it go up to half.

Mine never goes to 'half', just reaches the proper temperature of 85 ish...

Must definitely be a fault then as, at its longest, it takes about 45 seconds for the gauge to go from cold to half way.

Ive done a gauge sweep test and the needles are all working fine so must be the temperature sensor?

When you are in the test mode (where you did the gauge sweep) press the arrow buttons to step through the tests. One of the screens displays Eng T (C) and a number. This is the engine temperature that the cluster is seeing. Is it reasonable?
