Clutch pedal issues

Featured Replies

Ford Focus Zetec 2015

The clutch pedal sometimes goes all way to floor and doesn't return.

I lift it with my toe & it works fine until the next time - very intermittently.

When pedal is on floor the car still drives with no problem.

The spring return is most likely broken. It is at the back of the pedal and pulls the back of the pedal towards the footwell plate. Not the easiest thing to fit and it might help if you stick 5p coins in the spring to pre stretch it. A strong led torch and take some pictures with a camera to see where it needs to go.

Seems like a bit of a weak design. Could use a stronger spring with looped ends and fix the other free ends into the place using a strong tie wraps to pull it into place, could save hours trying to get the end of the spring into the holes.

"When pedal is on floor the car still drives with no problem."  can't just be pedal return spring otherwise when the pedal is on the floor it would not drive, it would be de-clutched and hence engine power not going to gearbox/wheels

Isetta. Yes you are right. Could it be the plunger moving sideways on the pedal post. A spring washer (round push on type) might have broken off allowing the plunger to move on the post. If it straightens up it works ok, and when it starts moving across the post it sticks when pressed down. Eventually it will fall off and the pedal will go to the floor. This spring washer can be pushed on and it only takes a few seconds if you know what you are doing.

I had the same issue, search my posts, it was the clutch CSC inside the box that failed. It seems common.
