Clutch noise

Featured Replies

Good afternoon guys

Just a quick one I have this noise on my 2005 focus had clutch change last January had bout 82000 miles when change now It has developed a noise when I picked up from garage I spoke to mechanic he said it was gearbox only happens when clutch is released in neutral but goes away when pressed been like this for a year but thought I get some advice as it really is annoying thanks in advance.

Sounds like it's a dry or worn thrust or release bearing, whichever it is it needs attention, take it back to the garage and get them to sort it out.

hard to say without hearing it. when in neutral with clutch pedal up, the engine is spinning the gearbox input shaft. when clutch pedal is down, the engine is not spinning the gearbox input shaft. so from what you say, I could not rule out gearbox.

Thanks guys mechanic says it's a separate issue so will be charged again other people telling me could be gearbox but it has not really given me any trouble in the year it's been happening so dont know if to leave it or get it looked at.

I have been driving since 1982 and have had a few cars with noisy gearboxes. Some have lasted a very long time.  But I did have one that did not. 1992 mk5 escort. One day I noticed a gearbox noise when driving. within about 1000 miles it was making a strange screeching noise on the overrun (more like a fan belt screech) and was jumping out of gear and clunking. It got so bad that I thought the thing might just totally jam in the middle of the road and if it did that the car would not even be able to be pushed. So I changed the gearbox.

But if your is only making a noise in neutral and not when you are actually in gear, on the power or on the overrun I reckon I would leave it like that if it was mine.

Ever had the gb oil changed? If not, then worth treating it to an oil change.
