I don't know, either I was a snowflake about it or he is different when the cameras are off him 🤷

I wouldn't worry too much about it Zain. Possibly you read the signs wrong or quite likely Stephen's earlier assessment was bang on. Some people do put on a show for whatever audience they're aiming at, though as I mentioned earlier a lot are perfectly genuine people and just as nice whatever.

Anyway, this guy's not that much of a "celeb" anyway!😀

I was a Samaritan volunteer for a decade

All credit to you Stephen - my Mrs reckons I couldn't do it as having to talk to me would tip people over the edge!

I'm reminded of the work of the Samaritans most days when I go for a walk. There's a level crossing over the East Coast Main Line in our village which has, sadly, been the scene of suicides. There's now a sign for the Samaritans at either gate of the crossing.

Could be a cultural thing LOL I chat to strangers all the time.

Maybe, but not so much in my case, I just never really understood chatting.  I spent a lot of time with my Nan when I was younger...she would literally speak to anyone, anywhere, about anything...and it horrified me!  Highlights include - asking a vicar if he was 'on a promise' as he was drinking passion fruit juice, asking the campest man I've ever seen if his 'wife & kids' were also at the same event, asking a lady with terrible fake tan where she'd been on holiday, referring to her current husband as 'not as good as the first' and telling people she never had kids 'but didn't do anything not to have them'... :shocking:   Not to mention telling every stranger her financial status... 🤦‍♂️

My other Nan wasn't a chatter though.  I could visit her and neither of us would say anything for 20 minutes lol.  When I moved from a small primary school up to a much larger high school, I was given some 'starter questions' by her & my Dad...'Do you have any siblings?  Do you have any pets?  Which school subjects do you like?'  But even I could see no-one else spoke like that in real life!!  During the 3rd year there, we had a task to write a 'positive' word about every person in the class...when I got mine back, it was just 30 'quiet' or 'nice'...that's the sort of impression I was making 3 years in.

It has had a bigger impact later in life though, as it's one of the biggest barriers I face with health treatment...unless they ask the exact correct, direct question, I just don't where to 'start' and get flustered.  Of course, if someone gets me on a subject I have an interest in, then I won't shut up for half an hour and they completely regret it!!

You mean like, "Tom, can you critique what you feel the issues are on modern car suspension?" LOL 🤣

Either that, or the difference between PD & common rail...

This chatting is a funny thing. At the most basic level it is just a way of assuring the other person that you are not a threat! My Mrs is, on the face of it, much more sociable than I am, yet I always seem to know what's happening in the neighbourhood and she hasn't a clue! Must be my forensic questioning technique.

But on the original theme of this thread:

A thing I really did like was watching Emma Radacanu win the US Open last night. No sign of the issues she had earlier in the year at Wimbledon and I really enjoyed the match!😀

Sounds similar to me back in school. Back in secondary school in the last year they did something where people were given a sheet with different categories such as most caring, funny etc. People had to write names down of someone in the year group for each category. The person who had their name come up the most in a category would win an award.

I actually won the most caring student award which really touched my heart as that showed this was based on people in my year group.

Sadly after college / university I feel I can't socialise properly with people. Don't know if it's due to the age gap or people are just more closed up to themselves when working.

Just a piece of paper which said what I got awarded for 😂.

To be honest as I've gotten older it's best not to go out your way for people. Sadly had people hurt me especially girls after I'd gone out my way for them.

I have a wife of 20 years whom hardly speaks to me past four weeks, living in my house, 😅

Also had a work colleague whom I've installed a light bar, 12v USB, and aftermarket bulbs to his car, as he wasn't confident; aswell as provided other tools and knowledge, drove him to purchase three other vehicles over the past three years, not to mention training him in work and fixing some errors to avoid him getting to trouble,

Then he swings me out last week for a small volume of 12% mono-ethylene glycol being sent to the in house waste water treatment system 🤷🏻‍♂️

Which I've proven it inadvertently gets there anyway where it's captured by sludge for inceneration.

I'm in the industry 19 years, I've trained him in most cases; then tries to get me in to trouble;

Wasn't disappointed; more I wanted to see the inside of his head.. 🤬🤪

Try moving out of London. The best place in the whole of the UK is the North East of England, and I'm not in the least bit biased. 😉

Come to Newcastle / Durham, we love to socialise even with shandy drinking southerners 🤣

It's an interesting point though...how do you meet new people as an adult?  Don't think I've actually met anyone new since 2016!!

I would have thought work was good for that, although maybe not when you work in A&E lol.

I suppose you'd need to find other hobbies.  Sports?  Crafts?  Car meets?

Its a very good point you raise. Meeting people to just generally socialise is difficult if your not working. I think as you say you need an interest so you can join a club. I guess the gym, and sports is one way for a lot of people (not me!).

I know there are on-line dating sites, but if all your looking for is a mate to go the pub and have a pint with, or just a chat about the garden, then do such on-line sites exsis ?

To be honest,

i do like waking up 5:00 in the morning, having a bath, eating my breakfast, kissing my wife and going to work 5-6 days a week!!!

I am doing a job that i like a lot for 22 years, so i am happy about my choice.

That is the thing that i DO LIKE and i also like loving my beautiful wife!!!

Depends really. In A&E there tends to be new people coming and going there. There's a lot of student nurses who come to do their work placements there. I also do like having conversations with the patients there. There was this very lovely Irish lady who came in who was waiting for the orthopedics to see her then put a cast on her leg which she broke after falling down the stairs. Always was talking to her and her husband. For some reason she was there for 10 hours. Got her 3 sandwiches during that time and tea.

When I started working there I met this really nice student nurse. She became very friendly with me with the shoulder touching and talking to me more than anyone in the department 😂. Sadly with student nurses they only come for 6 weeks before they move to a different department or hospital. She even wanted to play ping pong with me on her last day there and said we can meet up again in the hospital when she starts her placement in another department. Met up once with her after then as I got her a birthday present then afterwards hadn't really got s reply back from her after messaging her twice.

I do like meeting a 1.5" fake black widow spider last night which I've known very well; was in my home since last Friday,

He/she/neutral was waiting on the floor of our bedroom last night when I arrived home from work,

Following a small chase along the deep pile carpet which slowed it down; it was quickly met with my shoe,

Now the impact of this particular spider wasn't only it's unsightly presencein my home;

It bit me last Friday night on the back of my right leg around 2" down from my hip; which has ballooned out with a large pink circle around a septic burning centre which at times gets itchy then burns like hell,

It also impacts when sitting in the focus with the side bolster of the Recaro seat pressing on it,

The pain lives on; but the spider is gone thankfully before anyone else got bitten,

I was working nights last week and had the bedroom window open, where I'm 99% sure it came in as I've saw one passing the window heading up on to the roof during a heavy spill of rain last Thursday.

felt like an acid burn,

was very sore last Tuesday, then i got a packet of heavy duty disinfectant Antimicrobial surface sanitizing wipes from work 😄, green packet you may have saw then in hospitals, there a light green packet with a list of viruses and fungus with a list of seconds next to each type, saying it kills TB in 1.4 seconds, Hepatitis C 0.6, salmonella in 0.2 MRSA in 0.4 etc.

caw660.thumb.jpg.15f279a3ce4bae2835eca1867653eca8.jpg

well I got a packet of those brought them home, rubbed the bite vigorously with the wipes creating a sterile foam, then squeezed it in to more of the wipes. it really burned then like super hot heat, was a bit of green substance came out of it then clear liquid, it was very sore there after and now the swelling is going down, skin peeling probably burned a bit from the surface sanitizing wipes but all good,
