2013 Ford Focus parasitic draw?

Featured Replies

My vehicle has been having a wealth of issues for a while now.

bare with me if my explanations are not clear, as I am not very mechanically inclined but I am competent enough to know some ins and outs of a vehicle.

To start at the beginning, I purchased this car from a high-interest rate finance company as I didn't have the best credit But needed a vehicle. This company, CARFINCO, located in Canada, places a shut off ”module” or something that's connected to the battery. That has the ability to receive codes to shut the vehicle down in case I make late payments.

For the first year I didn't see have many issues and actually really enjoyed the vehicle. But once.my.1 year warranty was up this mother loving pile of margin has been nothing but a headache.

Issue number one, the radio began to cut off periodically but when I shut the vehicle off, then started it back up it would work again. Well this progressively became worse and eventually the sound system would make very high pitched crackling and plopping sounds with heavy bass coming from every speaker. I would shut the vehicle off, back on on and it was fine. It got to the point though where I would be at home working and the vehicle was off for Severalhours, and I would hear something coming from outside. It was the flipping car cars speaker system cackling and popping on it's own, when it's been off for hours. I finally found a solution and pulled the fuse. I guess the radios chipboard became faulty and would appear burnt where the wires connected. This I didn't confirm with my vehicle but with research online I came to this conclusion. The stereo is still installed but the fuse out.

Before this happened I actually had to replace the battery as the one that came with the used vehicle went dead just after a few of me buying it.

I purchased a used but well conditioned battery from a local shop and it worked beautifully for about 6 months.

Fast forward to 5 weeks ago, I go to start my vehicle and the dash lights we're flickering the headlights flickering making a weird sound while trying to start.

Long story short this vehicle now drains the battery at different rates but seems drain it quickly within less than an hour most of the times.

I have seen a few posts on here about a similar issue but they are very old and would like to discuss this with an updated post.

I was just told today that I should pol into the Canbus module?

Could it be this finance companies bs shutoff receiver? The canbus module?

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly.appreciated and are welcome.

Set your multi-meter to amps and connect it to the battery. Any more than a couple milli amps and you have parastatic power draw somewhere. You then leave the meter connected and start pulling fuses one by one until the amps drop right down to narrow down the circuit at fault.
