Steering column height fault

I have a 2015 Focus 1.0 ecoboost. Today I had to brake in an emergency and as a result the steering column collapsed even though the lever was in the locked position. It still slides up and down and I can lock it any position however by exerting pressure on the steering wheel, the column will slide with some resistance. Has anyone experienced the same and or is there anything I can do to fix it.
