Mk4 LED headlights.

Featured Replies

Anyone know how much LED headlights would cost to fit? (Not adaptive) Or where I may be able to get a price?

The dealerships an obvious answer but I’d rather have an idea of cost b4 speaking to them. It’s a lease car so probably have to be fitted in a ford garage.

eBay have ford ones at £450, whole headlight units though. Wouldn’t have thought the whole units would need replaced?

You'll have to check your lease terms. I'd very much doubt it lets you modify the car as at the end of the day it isn't yours.

Main dealers are rarely interested in people trying to retrofit things, its more of a DIY project tbh.

I’ve just heard back from the lease company. Can’t do it. If I owned the car I’d change them tomorrow.

I'm sure they'll let you change the bulbs?  I know it's not as good but better than standard at least...

Unfortunately we do not allow our customers to upgrade the headlights in their Scheme car, this is because the bulbs are not always compatible with the headlight assembly and can invalidate the manufacturers warranty.

If the reverse light is not bright enough, i would suggest speaking with Ford regarding this and see if the can replace the standard bulb for you.

Thanks, Sam

I told them I’d get Ford to fit LEDs, still a no.

But I can get them to change the reverse bulb. 🤷‍♂️

Tom, when you say change the bulbs, is changing to LED as simple as that?

I doubt it for the front dipped.  They will have a different current draw than halogen so the car will need to be programmed to know this or it will flag a bulb failure

Same reason we used to have to put inline resistors on aftermarket hid kits.

That said I have changed a reverse light to led as it had a built in resistor.  You could do that them just change it back when you give the car back.

For the front just stick osrams in and get leds on the next one.

You can buy H7 LEDs with built in resistors now so it is just a straight swap, but I meant just change to some better quality halogens and then swap back when you hand the car back. Phillips WhiteVision are much whiter than standard halogens, although they do still have a slight yellow tinge that you can't ever get away from without going LED.

I’ve been told I can’t even change bulbs. If I need new bulbs it has to be the dealership fitting the exact same bulbs that were factory fitted.

When I ordered the car I had about £700 for extras. Could’ve gone with red (free) paint, led lights and HUD or the B&O stereo or the convenience pack etc

right or wrong I went with the blue paint! Even the white paint at £250 would’ve let me go LED with what was left.

Bad decision ?

I doubt they'd notice unless they took the headlight unit out and examined the bulb.  I've changed the front dipped in mine to osram halogens, removing the headlight is a standard task that they have actually made easier, something good for a change.  On my Mk1.5 focus you had to undo a bolt in the wheel arch to get the unit out, which meant taking off all the wheel arch liner, right pain in the bum that was.

I did the change to osrams more for the improved range they have, rather than the colour, although it is good that they are not as yellow.

LEDs are alright, I'm not hung up on them, but they will eventually be all we can get.  I prefer the look of HIDs but their day is done now.

It'll only be a problem if you have to make a warranty claim for a faulty headlight, they'll never check otherwise.

I do understand why they've said that though, people used to fit hotter/larger bulbs that melted the plastic lens as they were so close as standard.

Blue paint is nice...I hate red cars though, and have owned at least 6!  It sounds like it wasn't your fault anyway tbh...you'd have gone for the LEDs if the dealer hadn't given incorrect info...  Personally I'd go for spec over colour, but I do draw the line at red lol.
