Focus 1.0 ecoboost

Featured Replies

Evening all, after a bit of advice.

Im looking at a 2014 Focus 1.0 ecoboost titanium and just want to get a feel for what they are like to live with day to day. I do around 40miles a day, mostly motorway and have heard the mpg isnt great?

Ive also read a couple of horror stories about clutches and engines cooking themselves!?

Any input would be greatly appreciated

Engines cooking themselves is correct, my grandson`s did just that, Ford eventually replaced the engine free of charge (one off), he sold the car last week, couldn`t live the chance of it going again.

Me and my partner have one each, mine a 2013 and hers a 2014.

Is the one you're looking at a facelift model or pre-facelift?

The issue with the engine cooking themselves is mainly down to the design of the degas hose which was recalled by Ford. The recalled one still isn't all that great and the design was changed on the facelifted models and appears to be much better. The version with the earlier hose can be converted to the facelift version by changing 2 hoses which I have done on my partners and intend to do on mine at some point.

MPG wise, best way I have heard these engines described is you can either have eco or boost and not both which fits in with my experience with them.

I get around 40 mpg on my commute which is a mixture of 30mph and a short 70mph A-road but on longer runs I find it to be better. I did a few runs from Essex up to Liverpool and Wigan and according to the onboard computer it was around 60 mpg.

I have a 2014 Titanium Nav, 1.0 125 (Mk3 pre face-lift).

I do 35 miles each way - 4 miles in London then M1, M25, A41. Car reports between 44 and 45 mpg. Mine was built with the replacement degas hose, still had problems which I just caught in time. Thread on here somewhere about it.
