battery voltage

Featured Replies

my car is a 62 plate focus 2.0 tdci 163.  this morning i thought id check my cars battery voltage before starting it .  i had a new battery fitted anout 10 months ago.   no problems. any way before starting this morning it read 12.03 volts.  that was enough to start the car just fine.  agter starting i checked the voltage and it was reading 15.05 v. . i remember when battery was fitted i had to do a reset of some sort . something to do with charging i assume.   does this seem right ?.  im possibly thinking that after charging at over 15v for a while to maybe put back in the charge it will drop back to about 13 or 14 v.  has anyone any thoughts about this.

You have a healthy battery situation, stop sweating it! When engine is running, a reading of 14.2v+ usually indicates everything good. Your car starts great with 12v, and that's good too.

Now, go worry about where to buy hand sanitiser and toilet roll like the rest of us LOL 🤣

That's the SmartCharge operating - has been a feature on all Fords from the early 2000's.

A cold battery accepts charge much more easily than a hot one so the ECU makes use of this by increasing alternator output briefly.  It can charge up to 16v perfectly acceptably.

My upside is, battery voltage/charging is good, and have toilet rolls and hand sanitiser, downside is, i'm over 70!! ☹️
