Performance air filter

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm looking for advice on what is the best performance air filter to put in my 59 plate focus zetec.

Also looking for suggestions on other mods that use might have made to yours.

Thanks in advance.

Depending on the engine bud. Cant go wrong with K and N replacements for factory filter.

SO when you replace your air filter are you going to remap? If not, then it's a waste of money.

No necessarily true as it will increase air flow creating less retriction, more noise and that's what peeps like to change it for with a small possiblity of bhp, possibility of better mpg due to the increased flow and washable so it can outlast the paper filters used. You can in fact save money.

The only thing a K & N filter does it let more debrit into the combustion chamber, thus increasing engine wear and lowering the efficiency of the oil. This will cause your engine oil to break down quicker and thus risk other damage if oil ways become clogged with with dirty oil.  If you don't care about the engine and all you want is sound, then fine.

I change my oil frequently so it doesn't get the chance to lose its viscosity.

My K&N went in the bin last time I serviced the car. This is what my turbo looks like now, leading edges of vanes are “sand blasted” and multiple vanes are bent on the corners. I’ve no idea how they got bent, something pretty big must have gone through it. I’m also not sure how long the filter had been fitted either, as it was in when I bought the car.
