Oil pump cambelt fibers

Featured Replies

Hi my I'm a new member can any one shed some light on my problem 2016 ford focus automatic  it has done 47000 miles oil light came on oil levels were fine called  my local ford dealer  they asked  me to bring it as it was being tested  apparently the engin  sized and was told it needs a new engin at a cost of £5500 on the report it states that the oil pump was blocked  with fibers from the cambelt is this down to a faulty part any views thanks in advance

I suspect it is a 1.0 ECOboost?

The 1.0 ECOboost has 2 wetbelts (timing belts running through the engine oil). Wetbelt failure is usually caused by incorrect engine oil. The 1.0 ECOboost requires engine oil that meets or exceeds the (very strict) Ford specifications. Incorrect oil will affect the wetbelts. Eventually the disintegrated particles of the wetbelts will block the oil pump strainer or the wetbelts will snap.

To be able to determine what caused the problem it is very important to know the complete service history.

running an engine with the oil pressure light on should not be done. every second the engine runs with insufficient oil pressure is causing damage to it. most moving parts in the engine are metal on metal and it needs the oil pressure to force a film of oil between the parts. insufficient oil pressure means no oil keeping the metal parts apart and it wrecks it all.

The damage was not done by the blockage. The blockage caused the oil pressure light to come on. The damage was then done by running it with insufficient oil pressure - which was known about as the light told us that.

blockage on this sort has been mentioned on this forum before.
