Focus won't start after battery change

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 2007 Ford focus 1.6 petrol.

I have had it 2.5 years and its always ran well and other than the odd wear and tear item haven't had any major issues with it or any of an electrical nature.

Anyway the other week I went to start it after about 10 days sitting on the drive as I was working away. It tried to turn over but wouldn't, it didn't come as a surprise as I knew the battery was on the way out anyway.

Got a new battery. Whipped out the old one and put the new one in. Obviously expected it to start but it now won't.

When I turn the ignition on there is a Flashing red LED and a message saying "Engine systems fault".

I did the self diagnostic test and got the following codes:

D900 and E510.

I'd appreciate any help and advice about what this could be and how it can be resolved. I assume its gotta be an electrical fault.

Thanks in advance,

Doug

The conclusion in the below post seems to point to the dash wiring harness..

If the old battery was dead the computer might have shut the starting down. If the new battery was connected it might have old data in its memory that prevents it starting. Try disconnecting the negative battery lead and leave it off for 1 hour. Then connect it back up. Leave it for 10 minutes and then click the ignition on for 10 mins. Then turn it off and back on and try starting it. Probably wont fix it but worth a try.

Thanks.

Will give it a go!
