Hello everyone, I am Kris and this is my Ford Fiesta MK6 2004 1.4 Duratec "Silver" some kind of limited edition with leather interior.

To Do List:

Face lift it:

Rear taillights

Headlights

New bumper and grill ? (Might just fix the current one)

New timing belt and water pump

New engine mounts

Source and fit one original 7 spoke alloy + refurbish all of them

Fit new brake discs,pads,calipers (possible from Mondeo https://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/115926-fiesta-mk6-300mm-brake-upgrade/ )

Rear brake drums to discs upgrade, if I am brave enough ( https://www.fordownersclub.com/tutorials/article/348-mk6-65-rear-drums-to-st-disc-brakes-conversion/ ) 

Remove and repaint the side skirts

Replace the drivers door? or try to get the dent out and repaint

Refresh the body work, all the minor scratches and cracks in the paint 

Find new original floor mats ( my ones say "Silver" where others would have ZTEC or Fiesta written on )

Fit 2JZ 

 

A bit about me, even tough being a petrol head since childhood, only got my license this December as previously there was no need really. So when looking for cars I was looking cheapest insurance band and Fiestas appealed most from Band 10 cars. Even if I could afford a newer "better" car I could not afford insurance, so I believe I will use this car for next year or two, somebody on the forums said not to put any money and labor in it, but I love working on cars and fixing things in general so it is my hobby.( also work, maintenance technician for a big school and residential )

As you can see it's in a drive way so don't really have a garage to work in, but good thing is I have started a new job as mentioned above and even tough our workshop is not quite a car or metal works work shop there is more tools and space I could use, a tripod winch we use to lift the sewer pump out to clean it could be used to lift the engine to change the engine mounts, plus one of my colleagues use to be a manager of car repair shop, so advice is at hand.

Plan is to work on it this spring/summer as there seems nothing else to do for some time as we are in some kinda Apocalypse without zombies.

I would appreciate any advice,comments,opinion, anything to be honest, even if you just want to "diss" or make fun of my efforts please do. I rather have any kind of comments than none at all.

It's amazing how much difference it makes and yes that is a Stella on the roof for job well done 😄

I just need to get a wire as the reverse lights only worked on the left, and the fog lights don't work.

That's kinda an issue as I looked at the tutorial on the forums and it did not quite apply to my situation as I took the new MK6.5 connectors that go to the car as well. Just linked all the same cables, but one on each side is spare. The incoming wires are 5 but the new lights have 6.

Started Saturday with a visit to local scrap yard to see if they have anything new in.

They, did !!! a facelift ZtecS same colour. Got myself a door and headlights paid 60 for the lot, I think quite good price, bear in mind my haggle skills are superior.

Dented one on the left ( not by me) I had taken the trims off already, turns out they are different.

It's a 2 door Fiesta !

I need to find how to effectiveley remove the old trim glue and get a new trim glue. Any suggestions ?

But this is the end result, I thought it will be a lot easier 😄 taking the window out was a pain.

I heard tigerseal is good. Did the door trim just pop off or is it glued on?

Was that double sided sticky automotive tape. And bought tiger seal, been working on other stuff on the car, and have not put the plastic back, as I want to polish the area, might as well while it's off

Been doing bits an bobs these past few weeks.

So found a donor same colour in my local scrapyard. Got the door lamps and latter went for the bumper and the spoiler.

Headlights 

Tried to restore them with wet sanding and then spraying lacquer on, one of them had a crack at the bottom and had to open it, some guys put it in the oven for a bit, well my oven is gas heated and the bottom is a lot hotter, slightly melted the bottom of it and there was a hole, tiger sealed it up.

After sanding

I went by crisfix video on youtube and the advice of putting clear coat on them afterwards to protect them, well... I tried my best, but had orange peal, wet sanded and polish as best I could but still did not had perfectly clear finish.

I managed this at the first try witch was pretty decent, but then used wrong alcohol to clean it and messed it up shortly after this picture

So a good week I spent wet sanding, spraying clear coat, wet sanding and respraying again, then once I finished one of them had to reseal it, this time I preheated the oven and turned it off then put it in, clear coat shrunk and made cracks and this point I don't even remember how many times I redid them, but this is the result, better than before but not perfect.

I might have a go at putting that clear film on, tough It would be quite hard for a novice I reckon to put it on on these headlights as of the little bulge.

Sanded and filled dents and bigger scratches in the bumper I got, tough since it's off Ill have a go at bumper repair.

Sanded and primed

I was quite pleased with the result till I tried to put base coat on

 (posted it on AutoPaint reddit for the pros to have a laugh at a newbie)

I had just a small 150mil can and was quite nervous it won't be enough and messed it all up.

In the process of sanding it all down and I will do the whole bumper, found out Halfords sell moondust silver quite cheep and bigger cans, bought 2.

Spoiler had a massive scratch right at the edge, thought I have learned my lessons and had a go.

 After primer

Was quite pleased with the result with the base coat.

Till I removed the masking tape 😞 I really tried not to spray any more around than necessary, but yes it had lines, tried my best to 1000 grit wetsand the lines, and applied another base coat and then clear coat. Tomorrow will see how it's done.

I think so far I have done all the major mistakes of a novice painter so hopefully should improve from now on 🙂

Yeah, I sanded half of that spoiler again and will try to paint it today again, I think ill use it as a practice how to blend in colour nice.

How are you getting on with the spray painting KrisT? Fair play to you admitting to your mistakes, a lot of people would have pretended that they didn't happen. Spray painting is more difficult than it looks but when you make mistakes and learn the hard way it is a much better lesson than reading about them. 👍

The temptation when spraying is to just do another coat too soon. Taking your time really pays off. I've made exactly the same mistakes, those who haven't must have had a good teacher. Great project and looking good so far. I like a few good cosmetic tweeks to improve a car. I've done the whel hubs, drum case and disk calipers on our Fiesta where it had surface rust, its an almost concealed area behind the wheels but well worth it.

It's been a while, but this summer I have moved to Portsmouth and have met friend who has lots of knowledge tools and skills, but limited on the space. So we trying to set up our own garage. And I am thinking making my car as marketing/project car.  The car has been bashed around a bit, so I ended up embracing it and making it unique rather than go for that mint not a scratch look. Ended up going for rat look and calling it a Racoon @Racoonmk6 is my Instagram. Racoon also be our company's logo.

My friend has been throwing around ideas such as making it RWD, taking chassis and engine from old escort or possibly bmw.

Those are far future plans, so atm still working on body work.

sealed some dent's and holes

Sanded them by the beech, smoking a joint and sitting in the booth and listening to music, joy.

 

So there was a crack in one side of the wheel skirts so I poked around and it was quite a lot of damage done and been all repaired, but then I kinda said ***** it, it aint worth repairing all that side for a 400£ car so it became a racoon.

This week I started on my old pre facelift lamps, I have grown to like then now lol, so I am pimping them with led's and tint

I just need suggestions what goes where, one of these spots must go, so I need only one strip for turn signal one for DBS or maybe I have seen them combined ones

Hey, I still got that Tiger Seal you recommended, ***** super glue for car.
