Mk3 side lights staying on ...

First off I'm a newbie so sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place and hello ! 

I have just bought a 2012 mk3 focus zetec s ,

I noticed as it got dark my side lights where on.

I had locked car 10:30 am with everything off ... so relocked car ( still on ) opened car checked light switch , indicator stalk ect  ( still on ) I have now worked out if I lock the car from over 10 meters away the side lights will stay on whatever I try even though I can still lock or unlock from this distance ... if I'm close to the car and lock it side lights go out straight away .. is this a normal feature ?

    HI on the mk3 model if the boot or door or bonnet is left ajar or even the boot is shut but not properly closed it will leave side lights on if ya open the door have a look ya should see them on and the rear lights hope this helps
