Putting 19” alloys on my focus zetec s

Featured Replies

So I recently bought a mk2.5 focus zetec s which currently has 17” alloys on it but I wanted too put 19” on it but have had people tell me not too, would there be any issues in terms of fitment if I wanted too change?

thanks guys

19's will hit the arches unless you drop the standard tyre profile, 235/35/R19 would work but ride quality would be a tad firm.

The 18" ST wheels will also fit just fine and look decent without having to go with really skinny rubber and also give you a more compliant ride quality.

I would also like to add "the bigger wheels will contribute to the unsprung mass of the vehicle" which will reduce your take off power at roundabouts etc.

Not an issue if your running over 150bhp but if lower then you will feel an impact,

I've fitted 18" ST alloys on my 110bhp 1.6TDCi focus before, later switched back to 16" after the issue with unsprung mass, tyres only lasting 9 months, inability to spot a flat tyre due to low profile with reinforced side walls, and fractures from country roads causing punctures

This is my Zetec S with 18" RS replica alloys, no issues with rubbing at all.

One reason I have for not fitting larger wheels is: bigger wheel means you need to fit lower profile tyre means less rubber between edge of wheel and road which means more chance of damaging rim when you hit a pot hole or scrape on kerb (although I agree my car would look better if the 14 inch wheels were replaced with bigger
