Keyless button start works - while keys 50 metres away

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I discovered that my 2010 focus titanium keyless button start can start without the keys in or near the car.. I actually walked 40-50 metres away with the keys and my partner was able to start it no problem..

I've tried to Google this but all I'm finding is how to start the car when fob is dead but this seems to have been deprogrammed or something? So it literally has no security..

Any info or advice is greatly appreciated

Thank you 🙂

Have you recently bought the car?  Maybe someone left a spare key in a cubby hole?

There's no simple way to deactivate the immobiliser (for obvious reasons!) so it does seem very odd.

mmm... Dublin... I would certainly buy a sturdy DiskLok in the interim period whilst you get this sorted!

My focus manual says something about the car will start and run even without the keys present of within 15 mins of it being unlocked, and keep running until you stop the engine.

Well, just me or is that a bl**dy stupid design? 🤨

Why do many insist on  advertising, "tapatalk"? Is it difficult to change the default signature?

You'll have to forgive me, I went back to the manual and it seems misremembered. It's a Fast Restart feature, which allows you to restart the engine within 10 seconds of turning it off, whether a key is present or not.
Still a stupid feature though. If I park up, stop the engine, get out and walk away, should I happen to be in a hurry and forget to lock it then someone has 10 seconds to jump in and start her up and drive away, all without the key.

I don't think the OP walked 50 metres within 10 seconds!

bet he does if he hears someone start his car 😬
