Focus 1.6 TDCi (DV6) 2010 Oil Filter

Featured Replies

Hi There,

Completed oil service yesterday including oil filter cassette and new engine oil change.

The new filter sent (checked it would fit car via euro car parts) is slightly different to the one removed. The new one fitted fine, all correctly located, but concerned now it’s wrong.

The new filter has a plastic strip that the one removed didn’t have. As this protrudes into the oil casing, wanted to see if you have come across this before I go and buy another (or of the one I removed was actually wrong and the new one a correct)

Photo below is the new one that has the extra plastic attached. (They both have the stem on them)

Can you advise?

I used to fit original Ford ones when I had the same car and none of them had the extra strips, they only had the nipple.

It's been almost 2 years since I bought one, so they may have changed since then.

Incidentally whenever I checked, the aftermarket ones were not that much cheaper.

The ones I used only had the plastic nipple with the o ring on. I found it hard to be sure filter was in properly ie the nipple in the hole correctly as you can’t see if it’s in the right place. I wonder if the extra bits of plastic are there to help locate filter into correct place so nipple goes in hole correctly

both types will fit fine it`s all down to which make you go for, the ones i`ve only ever have used were bosch and they always had the one plastic nipple, you`ll always find out if it`s fitted wrong as wen you start the car you`ll get the oil light come on if fitted wrong
