Focus st3 225 2007 (moon dust silver)

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I have a 2007 Ford Focus st3 in moon dust silver. It has 60k miles on the clock but the bottom end has gone. Low end bearing I’ve been told, so basically needs to be refurbed or a new engine put in its place. However I have another car which is used as the daily and a motorbike too so I’m not looking to do the work myself if anyone has a suggestion which would be the best thing to do with it I’m all ears. It’s been on my parents drive for months now and need it off.

Do you want to keep the car, is it special enough to you to be worth fixing? Otherwise it's objectively just an old Focus you might get a few quid for scrapping or selling for parts.

I love the car but would be a lot easier if I just got rid of it tbh, trouble is I don’t know anything about selling it for parts I thought about it but never done that sort of thing before. Would be easier if I just sold it as if but for scrap il get crap money. I spent 7,000 on the car and barely drove it before I was in the situation I’m in. So I would like more than scrap value. Ideally I’d want someone to buy it as is and fix it but that would probably take a lot of time to happen so I’m not sure what to do?? Thanks for the reply guy

Tbf I’ve seen an almost identical one to your spec on autotrader also with a blown engine, for about £1000 but much higher mileage. You could ask a bit more, but no guarantees you’d get that, but a bit better than just scrapping it I guess.

£7k on a prefacelift ST?  You could've got a facelift for that!

The low mileage shell isn't worth much now the most mileage relevant part (the engine) is scrap.  Honestly the best thing to do would be to fix it yourself then sell it on.  Paying someone else to fix it won't be cheap, but you'll lose a lot selling as spares or repairs as well.

I used to buy cars to fix up or break for parts but no space to do it now.

Unless it's a forged engine then it's not worth repairing. Sadly the majority of bearing failures on these are caused by poor maintenance.

The most anyone will pay for a mint, pre-facelift with low mileage is around £5k. You can get a second hand engine for around £1400 (can be more depending on what has been done to it). Plus fitting at whatever rate your garage charges.

Alternatively you'll get £1500-£2000 tops depending on condition by advertising it with a bottom end knock in an ST forum.

Last option is to part it out. The head is still worth a few quid, along with seats + door cards, clocks, exhaust, turbo and all of the body panels. All of that adds up to over £2k, just depends if you've got the space to be keeping a shell (which is worth about £400-500 of rust free).

Thanks for the reply guys. Yeah I’m pretty annoyed tbh how much money I’m going to lose! I think I’m going to have to find someone to buy it as is instead of getting the work done myself, I don’t have the time or money tbh. Problem is finding someone to buy it as is where would be the best place to sell?

ST forum as Luke said.  Or Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, ebay, etc.  But buying broken cars isn't an essential journey so you're unlikely to sell it for the next few weeks at least.

(Although saying that, my neighbour has taken advantage of the situation and bought another car at bargain price lol)

Yeah il have to try on those websites hopefully someone will see the potential. But like you said what with the current situation will more than likely be months away from a sale!
