Folding mirrors on mk 2.5 estate

Featured Replies

I fitted powerfold mirrors on my last mk2 estate. It was 06 phase 1, so I had to fit a powerhold relay and stuff to make it work.

I have now fitted these to my 08 Titanium. All working except -

Mirror fold and outer mirror adjustment can only be done with ignition on (or car running obv)

On my old car, both the powerfold and the door mirror adjustments could be done with the key out.

Anyone got any ideas if there's a constant live I should have?

Both my Mercedes C class, and Celica GT4 could only have their adjustment and folding executed with the key in the ignition  I thought that was standard?

if you want them to fold with ignition off you would have to wire them a live connection so powered all the time

On most modern cars they fold & unfold automatically when locked and unlocked...unfortunately the Mk2 is just slightly too old and they have to be manually folded with the ignition on as standard.

Makes sense as the 2 cars I quoted were anything but modern LOL Though I did own a 1995 FTO which a club member made a wiring loom mod that enabled auto folding when locking/unlocking  I loved that feature!

Me too, it's something I do miss on the Golf, gave an air of drama to the Mk3 as the LED sidelights/puddle lights came on and the mirrors unfolded when unlocked!

I also had them on the Mk2.5, was a rare option when they came out, but it was pretty annoying having to manually fold them each time ha!
