Car spray clear coat

Featured Replies

I bought ford deep impact blue pearl  paint in spray cans from jawel. (Non 2k)

I also bought HB Body 496 2K Professional Clear Coat Lacquer (although I think its 1k).

I emailed to ask if a real 2k would react with the paint and was told no .

Anyone tryed there paints . I was going to get spraymax 2k in cans , is there any as good in can form  or has anyone got any experience  with hb body paint

2k is better quality but more dangerous so wear a mask here is the pdf data sheet on your paint Here. Spray max seems to be popular and does have more versions here is the sheet on the glamour version Here it does answer most questions.

Thanks for replay , although I have 2 cans of hb2k (has added activator but no separate canister) I heard it doesnt fully cure .

Then read spray max is.the biz (but expensive) any one.in uk sell it ?

Then I have saw that 1k stays kind of soft and it moves under the 2k coat , dont know if that's true , I want a home job that will last .

Personally if I was doing body panels I wouldn't bother with aerosol laquer. It's never anywhere near as good as spraying with a gun.

Unfortunately 2k in a can is expensive. When I ordered my spray gun from spraygunsdirect I found that they sell paints and aerosols. They know what they're talking about and don't reccomend any crap stuff like what's on ebay and amazon. I'd have a look on there to see what 2k in a can they sell.

Having said that if it's something small like a mirror cover then I suppose you might get away with it. Just be prepared for it to be incredibly orange-peely and not be as durable as a true 2k laquer that you mix yourself.

A 1500 wet sand followed by machine polishing is your best friend with this sort of job. It should be able to remove most of the orange peel so I suggest 3 coats of laquer meaning you've plenty of material to cut back.

Thanks for replay ,

So far I have gray scotch padded  the bumper ,

I have a few nicks  and rubbing Mark's where bumper was stored .

I've got some filler to.fill the Nick's and deep scratches on the top coat . (Topcoat is sound )

Im going to.use plastic adhesion promoter on the bare plastic strip,  after panel wipe  (it's about 12 inches long and about 5 mm wide., do I need promoter)

Sand the filler will 600 then 800, panel while, prime filler only, sand with 800, panel wipe, then lay a dusting of deep impact.blue (1k )over the original silver.

Give it 3 coats, wait for it to flash (about 15 min . Then use top coat .

I will get spraymax as I cant see another 2k  clear that has good review and cheap in uk

Give it 3 coats then sand 1500 wet , then used a good cutting polish compound .

It's a salvage car , dont want to spend mega bucks on it , or I would buy a 50 compressor .

I'm buying some spray gun stuff for home atm. Turns out the compressor is only half the cost. A decent gun is £100, 1.5L of laquer = £20, 1L of jet black is around the same, 5L of thinners £15, 5L of panel wipe £15, farecla g3 £15, machine polisher £90, measuring cups, paint strainers, mixing sticks around £5, 15m of hose £20, water trap & regulator for the gun £20.

I believe that's over £300 and doesn't even include the primer, various sand paper grits and blocks that are also required. With a compressor aswell I'm talking over £500 to get started spraying in the garage...

I have an air compressor with 25 litre tank and spray gun. Not used the spray gun for maybe 20 years. I did have an earlier compressor/tank but found that the spray gun took air out of tank quicker than compressor replenishes it so had to buy a better one so I would not run out of air part way through. So make sure the rating of the compressor is good enough. But I am out of touch and can’t tell you what cfm you need. Doesn’t matter so much if just doing a small front wing but the bigger the area the more need to have a powerful compressor. Don’t make the same mistake I made
