Updating mileage after speedometer change

Featured Replies

Hi just wondering if there is away to change my mileage as I have updated my speedometer from a 2016 focus but it has given my car the mileage of that car and not displaying my cars correct mileage it’s taken 20k miles off or would this be somthing only ford can do

I have a 2014 mk3 focus

I’m pretty sure you can only go higher and not backwards. You can do this via an OBD cable connected from your car to your computer and then using forscan to update the values on the IPC.

Someone else should be able to chime in, I’ve seen the option in forscan somewhere.

it can be done upwards with focom and obd cable look on ebay

your lucky im going to put the bigger screen clocks on mine and my mileage will double from 63000 to 123000

I am going to do this also but can I take a set of clocks from a 2017 plate and put them in my 2014 plate as I am sure the 2017 plate is the mk3.5 and my 2014 plate is a mk3 thanks

thats something i dont know

Technically all European Focus MK3 and MK3.5 instrument clusters are compatible. There are only differences between Petrol or Diesel and KM/H or MPH.

MK3.5 Instrument clusters have different software which is not fully compatible with the MK3. A Focus MK3.5 instrument cluster can be used on a MK3 but because of the different software there will be several issues. For example the sound of the parking sensors will no longer work and the visual display and sound of the Active Park Assist system will no longer work. The software of a MK3.5 instrument cluster can be downgraded to MK3 firmware. This is officially not supported by Ford (the MK3.5 instrument cluster is not even recognised as a suitable MK3 part) and I suspect that no Ford dealer has the knowledge/experience to do this.

The USA MK3 instrument clusters are also not fully compatible with the European MK3 (USA MK3 instrument clusters are very similar to the European MK3.5 instrument clusters). A USA Focus MK3 instrument cluster can be used on A European MK3 but again only after the correct European software has been installed.

I recently replaced the instrument cluster in my MK3 with an MK3 cluster produced a few months after the one originally in my car. It is for sure an MK3 cluster, so not problem there.

The milage shown on the new cluster is significantly lower than the distance the car has driven, so I need to update it.

What surprises me is that when I now read the Odometer value from the BCM it returns the same value as when reading from the instrument cluster IPC.

I have downloaded the special version of FoCCCus that @JW1982 published here earlier and plan to use it to update the milage to the correct value.

Anyone know if the car milage is ONLY accumulated and stored in the IPC, or can I read the "correct" car milage from somewhere else using FoCCCus?

On the Focus MK3/MK3.5 the mileage is also stored in the PCM but this is very unreliable. The stored mileage in the PCM has the strange habit to reset sometimes when the PCM software is updated. Because of this on most Focus MK3.MK3.5 vehicles the PCM shows a completely different mileage than the instrument cluster.
