Boot lock kinda not working??

Featured Replies

When I unlocked my car all 4 doors and boot unlocked. Now, the boot doesn't unlock, but if I press the 'red' boot icon on the key fob, it does. So, the lock works, just doesn't appear to be in talking terms with the rest of the central locking. Is there something that may need reset on it?

The rubber boot handle button deteriorates over time; allowing water to get inside the rubber and corrode's the contacts,

You need a replacement boot handle switch;

Simply unplug the existing one and plug in the replacement

I have one in my attic from a mk2.5 which I replaced with a camera integrated model; if the standard mk2.5 model fits pm me your address mine doesn't have the loom attached but it is a factory socket on the rear of the handle unit.

Alternatively get one on Ebay

Thanks for your input,, but I'm curious. If the boot handle switch was damaged, surely it wouldn't work at all with a double click of then 'boot open' button on the key fob?

No problem; I may need it myself some day,

The boot handle functions independently of the key fob method

When the copper strips oxidise or turn green inside the switch then the contact is intermittent

Lenny, treat me like a 5 year old LOL The 'boot handle' only works now when I double press the key fob, before this morning, it use to work when I simply unlocked the car. (It is totally inoperative unless I double click the key fob). I think it may have happened after the boot was slammed shut quite hard (don't ask LOL), that's why I thought something may just need reset. It didn't become intermittent at any stage, just stopped working after the boot slam.

UPDATE:-

As Lenny indicated in his very first response, his diagnosis was spot on! Ordered the part from Ebay for £6 (inc free P&P!), arrived in 2 days! Had it fitted this morning, and karma has returned to my lowly little focus. So, if your tailgate no longer activates with the central locking, but unlocks via double click of key fob, this should sort it! :thumbup:
