Generally speaking for most things you cant go wrong with OEM, the motorcraft stuff is very decent kit and usually not actually that expensive, I've found filters and plugs etc. To be competitive to Halfords +  FOC discount at times for kit I know is 'right' for my cars.

I'd look at potentially carbon pollen/cabin filters on things like Amazon if you wanted to make a decent go of it, but overall very few items like filters are bad really nowadays. If you're on a budget Halford's branded kit is usually made by the bigger manufacturers, so by no means low end.

I would look at Green or K&N for the air filter, but that's personal preference for sound and generally knowing the brum can breathe easier.

I use Mann filters, excellent quality, not knocked off rubbish and OE on a lot of vehicles

Euro car parts sell Mann filters. As well as Bosch and Crossland (which are their own budget brand) I always use the Crossland airfilters if I need it straight away, but buy Ford ones if I don't mind waiting a few days for the post as quite a few ebay Ford dealers sell 'em for a good price + free postage.  Mann fuel filters are top quality too. btw, Ford do 2 versions of cabin filter, one with and one without (cheaper) carbon

Depends on the mileage and of course your budget.

Engine Oil Filters: Mann, Purflux or Mahle. Budget option Blueprint or FEBI

Air filter: Mann, Mahle. budget option: FRAM

Cabin filter: filter with active carbon, any brand shall do.

Diesel Fuel Filter: Mahle, Delphi or Clean Filter (these have specified 5 microns or so for the filter material). Budget: FRAM or Blueprint/FEBI. Do not touch: Bosch,  Valeo

My filter replacement policy: Engine Oil and cabin every 6.5 kmiles or 12 months, Air and Fuel every 13 kmiles or 24 months.

What's the issue regarding Bosch/Valeo fuel filters?  I'm genuinely curious as both are generally considered to be "trusted" brands.

Belated reply but here it is:

- Bosch fuel filter  have glued seam, after 6 kmiles, as per my experience glue is undone, so filter looses it's purpose

- Valeo fuel filter is cheap, that's why it's liked but it has declared filtering of 20 microns (micrometers). This value is too high and not suitable for the modern low sulfur diesel fuel (it's produced from the oil using hydro-carbonate craking process, fuel like this is more unstable on the high temperature and pressure and tend to degrade to asphaltene (brownish slime in the filter casing when replacing diesel)). Caterpillar had a lot of problems with their injector service interval and after investigation they suggested that fuel filter used is graded  for 4 microns. Like said above Delphi, Mahle, Mann or Clean Filter have declared filtering of 5 microns. Close enough for me.
