Hi All.

I have a 2016 b-max 1.5 tdci , as we are in lockdown have only used car once a week,

have noticed stop/start not working, thought battery could be low,

how are you supposed to connect earth lead from charger to battery.

can only just see it let alone reach it,

also have small starter pack just in case ,

have read alternator will not fully charge battery if its too low

Help, Mick.

You don't connect to the earth on the battery you connect to the body earth which is close by don't know the exact location on a Bmax, it's bad practise to connect to the battery..

On the Cmax it's to the right of the battery box near the bulkhead it's got a heavy cable connected to it might be similar on the Bmax

battery is Varta EFB 75ah. 700A SAE/EN  T7.

Have a Ring Automotive charger 8 RCB208

with low/high setting can I use this to charge battery in situ and still connected ,

Great, stop, start may still not work there are a lot of parameters that have to be met, battery charge, engine temp not to hot or to cold, electrical load  and a/c to name but a few. I drive 25 miles to the nearest town and I don't get stop start straight away under bonnet temp to high.

  • 3 weeks later...

Stop/start n/w again so bought special charger,

took over 24 hrs to charge fully,

lost charge again, had battery checked at garage ,

£172 for new one fitted.

apparently alternator is over £300.

stop/start is not cheap.

Where you wearing a flourrecent jacket, because oh boy  they seen you coming way overcharged. Stop start isn't pricey but old battery's can be as you found out pays to shop around, the correct batter from Ford ,is well at my dealers , cheaper than aftermarket
