Battery Drain on 2019 Focus Titanium

Featured Replies

Hi,

since lock down my battery has drained.  I got the AA to check and they advise that the wrong battery is installed.  As my dealership is closed I cannot get this query resolved.  The AA believe the battery should be enhanced.  The current battery (Yuasa 3000 see attached pic).  Has anyone had a simlar issue with the wrong battery being installed?

Thanks

The factory fitted one on my 2019 Titanium 1.5 Petrol is a Ford branded EFB one. Mine is only a 60 Ah, 600 CCA one.

It looks like someone has fitted a heavier duty one on your car, but as far as I know it should be either a EFB or an AGM one because these cars have Start/Stop.

Yep thats not the correct battery. The size should be ok, but it's not an EFB battery that's required for the automatic start/stop. A regular car battery will fail pretty quickly in a car fitted with start/stop.

If you want to stick with Yuasa then the 7000 series are suitable, however there are many other brands that also make EFB/AGM batteries

Don't think that Yuasa battery is EFB which as already stated it should be. Most aftermarket suppliers seem to recommend 65a. Also battery monitor can be upset by non OE spec battery fitted.

That's a standard load battery, with the Focus engines it's either EFB or AGM in certain specifications. If you have EFB then it's interchangeable with AGM but not vice versa. In the Yuasa range you're looking at 7000 for EFB and 9000 for AGM. Another advantage of AGM is that they tend to last longer with higher cycle ratings the main downside of AGM though is the cost which is about a third more than EFB and that they're slightly bigger than EFBs from what I've seen.

Bosch is another recommended battery, which is the standard battery that the AA install from memory.

I wonder how/why the battery came to be swapped on a nearly new car? Pic shows the label on the original EFB battery in my 1.0 Fiesta, which sounds as if it's the same as John mentions above.

Exactly the same as my one, although the Diesels may have had heavier duty ones fitted, especially the 2.0 Diesel.

Yup, our Fiesta has that battery and my Focus had an identical one which I've just swapped out as it was the 8 year old original. Very odd that a 2019 car would have a battery swap, let alone and incorrect battery swap.

It is a 1.0 Petrol.  Was 5 months old when I got it.  So suspect swap was done either when it came up from down south as maybe had a flat or beforehand

The handbook does say that any replacement battery must be the same type, so Ford might use that as an excuse not to honour any warranty claims relating to the changing system.

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngWith the amount of threads on here regarding mk4 battery issues in nearly new cars, maybe the first owner tried to sort his/hers with a new battery. Or it’s been in a crash 🤔

is this different from the 1.5l titanium?

Do batteries ever get removed from vehicles in long term storage? Or being shipped by container ship?

No, battery's stay in the vehicle. As for storage, the battery should be disconnected.

It has just over 15% more storage and cold cranking capacity compared to my manual 1.5 Titanium.

It's good to know that size of battery will fit in my battery tray because  our engine bays should be the same despite the BHP and transmition differences.
