Starter motor

Featured Replies

Hi I have a 2012 mk3 1.6 tdci focus Zetec s and I’m having problems with intermittent starting.

ive tried a new clutch sensor and it’s not that. I’ve checked the starter and the 13mm nut that seems to have a short braised wire from it won’t tighten or loosen. I’ve checked the other two nuts on the solenoid and made sure they are tight.

can anybody please advise do I need a new starter?

what I can say is since I’ve put everything back together the car starts on the push button every time at the minute. Before I started the job I could t get the car to start at all it kept clicking when I pressed the start button.
any advise is welcomed and Thankyou in advance.
if I need a new starter please can you let me know how to change the starter. Regards Chris

I had a similar issue with starting, it was my starter motor. They’re cheap enough and easy enough to replace. Sounds like it might have a loose connection. Is it stop/start?

"short braised wire from it won’t tighten or loosen. I’ve checked the other two nuts on the solenoid and made sure they are tight."   I assume it should say Braided, not braised.

Difficult to say, perhaps it had a bad connection you you disturbing it has rectified it.  I note you says one nut won't move, I assume you have moved the other two to some degree and that may have fixed it. I think you'll just have to see how it goes.

Check if minus cable from the battery to the gearbox casing is firmly connected on both sides and has no dirt or corrosion (usually greenish flakes on the bots). Than try with the starter motor.

Thanks to all who has replied. Yes sorry braided not braised. I managed to loosen the other two nuts on the starter lubricate them and tighten them back up and it’s been fine since....fingers crossed.

appreciate all your help.

Thanks
