Xtrons head unit for a 2010 focus

Featured Replies

Hi all, I want to fit another head unit in my 2010 focus and saw some Xtron units that seem to be too good to be true? relatively cheap, easy to fit and lots of features. Are they really as good as they make out?
if they are ...... which unit have people fitted to their mk 2.5 focus’s and do they have sat nav and DAB built into them? or do you need a separate dongle for the DAB and sat nav???

thanks

Hi, I had one of these in my mk 2.5... I was quite impressed for the price. The only minus was that the radio reception wasn't all that good,so I streamed from my phone via wifi. The included GPS dongle locked on almost straight away so any android satnav worked .There was a microphone included for the phone Bluetooth, and  the unit recognised a2dp? to play music from the phone. The sound I improved with poweramp. Btw, I still have the unit boxed upstairs so if you want to give it a go, I'll sell for£50.00 pqlus post. Any other info you need, just get in contact. Best regards, Martin

This got asked the other week. See this topic where I posted a pretty lengthy reply.

I've also had an Xtrons Android 8 unit fitted for approximately 18 months without any major dramas.  DAB requires an additional dongle and the reception is directly related to the quality of the aerial i.e. the windscreen mounted "sticky" aerial has it's limitations compared to a roof mounted aerial.  Do NOT be tempted into a unit with less than 2GB of RAM otherwise it will 💩 itself when you try to use a nav app and listen to music.

I've fitted a pioneer headunit in my mk2.5 focus a few years back as part of a complete upgrade of the car entertainment system,

If I was doing it again I'd go with an xtrons as there cheaper and I'm using two JL Audio amplifiers; so the headunit doesn't use its internals much only to process the signals,

When fitting the Audio equipment; I also fitted an xtrons roof mount monitor and xtrons tv tuner which is really helpful on lunch breaks in work at the moment during self isolation.

Heres my list of guides which cover the roof monitor may be of interest,

I've fitted the tv tuner inside the passenger side boot panel using some velcro pads and the lollipop stick aerials stick inside the windscreen, has pause and record, I've fitted the iR receiver inside the garage door compartment in the centre console,

I've also fitted a USB port & HDMI socket inside the centre arm rest replacing the standard 12v socket; this is useful for plugging in a Chromecast for Netflix

Good advice in general I'd say. However, my own Android HU is a no-name with 1GB RAM. Runs TomTom and JetAudio Player simultaneously without dramas. I de-bloated it, and disabled unused apps to maximise usable RAM.

I'll definitely get a 2GB one next, though, as the existing HU is a bit of a slowcoach in the booting-up stakes.
