Mk7 transit tipper help

Hi all, 

Please can you help me!!?

I have a tipper which has done 70k, when I put it in reverse I get a clicking noise and if I coast it going backwards it's still there?? I also get the same noise in other gears?? I've had a mechanic said it's the gear box...can someone shed some light before I spend money on changing it.
