Marc Crew
Afternoon all...….. As a last ditch attempt to avoid paying a main dealer over £1000 for a new head light I thought I would reach out here for some advice. I have a Focus ST (2016), it has the all singing and dancing headlight. However the Off side light keeps pointing out to the far right, and clearly has an issue. My local Ford deal said its a common problem and it needs a total new light cluster at over £1000 (something about the cables burning out...…...I would have thought this would have been a recall as its clearly a design issue!). Can anyone offer any advice where I can get the parts needed to replace at home (I assume being old school myself this is a few screws and some plastic brackets - that I will no doubt break when removing!). Just attaching the new headlight pod and away I go?

JamboChris
There was a topic about this quite recently: The general consensus seems to be that the wires going into the back of the headlight get stretched. I've bookmarked a German site where someone repaired their headlights, looks straightforward. Google translate works well. https://www.motor-talk.de/forum/xenonscheinwerfer-am-fl-defekt-serienfehler-t5572326.html Good luck

My car only used to do it when the Auto lights were on, now it happens even when I use lights manually. Will see if the German notes work.... karlbbb
Interesting thread on that German site. I actually had my Titanium X's headlights open yesterday to put in my Osram CBIs, and I think from looking at my own headlights and comparing to the thread above and a thread about changing the bulb on another forum, I have a slightly newer design which includes some cable relief to the connector that normally snaps causing the infamous headlight malfunction. The wires seem to have an extra clip that attaches to a revised collar that goes around the bulb itself - on my car, I had to actually unscrew this extra bit of the bracket to remove the collar. That said, on the driver's side unit (which always seems to be the failing one) the cable is still quite taught when it goes to full-left turn, the cable is quite tight. Been thinking about doing a video if anyone was interested.
Botus
in the UK if its been updated then for 6 years you should get free replacements fitted by ford.... the law says its their issue for 6 years "if its a defect at time of manufacture..." but your consumer rights are just ignored by corporate monsters who just tell u to f off and we all fall for it
