Ford Escort GTI

Hi I have the opportunity to acquire a 1998 Ford Escort GTI, I made and programmed the keys to this car 6 months ago and it started straight up, it was the lady’s fathers car who had passed away, she attempted to sell the car but got no interest and eventually asked the scrap man to come and get it but when he got there it wouldn’t start to get it out of the garage so he walked away, she rang me back thinking it was my keys that were at fault, when I went back to check there is nothing wrong with the keys but the fuel pump isn’t working and there is no pressure to the fuel rail, she has said If I want I can have the car as it is, it has only 16,000 miles on the clock and is overall in very good condition.

so my question is what are they worth and is it worth me taking the car and fitting a new fuel pump

Depends what condition it is but even then probably not worth that much being a GTI (as opposed to a RS2000 or XR3i). Think they were a run-out model where Ford just added bits to it to help sell off their stock before the Focus was on sale.

Fuel pump problem could be related to the fuse box issue that these suffer from (certainly the earlier 90's anyway, changed 5 for family and friends)

Are you sure it’s 16k and not gone round past 99,999 so 116k but not enough digits.  As before, all depends on condition. I would check voltage at fuel pump and or run wire direct from battery to pump to test.  I had a 1991 and 1992 escorts with the fuse box problem . I don’t know if the problem was on later ones also
