If the car is 2003 model there could be printed circuit board corrosion in the instrument cluster. See BBC Watchdog web page. If confirmed as 'Watchdog' problem Ford dealer should provide replacement cluster fo £99 all in inclucing cost of dianostic test and VAT. mjt Posted October 19, 2008 Share Posted October 19, 2008 I had the same problem on my 03 1.8tdci estate. In my case the speedo would drop to zero and stay there until the engine was stopped and restarted. The dealer replaced the VSS under warranty but this didn't cure it. mjt Posted November 2, 2008 Share Posted November 2, 2008 I don't know if the odometer also stops working in these instances. I must admit that I didn't notice if mine was still working as I was concentrating on the rev counter as an indication of speed (after the first failure I compiled a list of rpm vs speed in various gears).
