Hi I've a 2014 ford focus 1.6 tdci since last August its been running with overheating problem, ive had a new thermostate and oil cooler seals done to it, system has been flush several times and tested. But the over heating problem still exists. Head gasket came back as fine on the diagnostics radiator is fairly new as informed by mechanic.

When does it overheat?  Only in traffic?  On the motorway?

Has anyone checked the active grill shutter isn't stuck closed?  Does the cooling fan work?

Is the symptom just high temp gauge or is the water actually being forced out of pressure cap

The temp gauge will go up then down then to half again, but if gets to hot goes to the 3rd quarter which takes coolant out the tank and needs to be filled thats the only time I hear the fan when it over heats mainly happens when driving along

temp gauge going to 3rd quarter no water comes from pressure cap

Is the water pump working. If it is overheating the water coming out of the radiator top hose should be hot, and the hose warm to touch. If the hose is cold the water pump might not be working.

Stick an OBD reader into the car, and get an app on a tablet or your phone to pull data from it and monitor temps in real time. There could be a faulty sensor or dash, pulling temps in flight during a drive will give you data to see what the engine/ECU is doing. You can pull other telemetry on the fly if you wished such as oil temps.

You should also hear the fan when it's doing a DPF regen...which I think might be what's happening here if it's only getting hot while driving instead of in traffic.

What happened when it broken down on Friday?  Did it just cut out?  You probably need Ford specific diagnostics on it, local indy garage aren't likely to have good enough kit.  Forscan would be ideal.

Nope didn't cut out or anything was travelling at 75 and temp went to 3rd quarter no water lost, if I go a long distance at 80mph it goes to 3rd quarter but through towns at low speed is fine, when it gets to the 3rd quater is when the fan is going more so
