How do you split an ethernet connector?

I have one of these sending a broadband signal to my Sky box.

I now want some kind of 'splitter' so I can send an additional broadband signal to my FireStick using one of these type adapters. (Having constant issues using WiFi and want an old fashioned cable!)

There re plenty of splitters listed, but on reading some reviews, I am unsure if a 'spitter' will work, as apparently you can only have one broadband device running at any one time. As you can tell, my knowledge is a bit sketchy. Any geeks out there know what I need to make this work?

You need an unmanaged Ethernet switch. 5 ports are usually the minimum. Doesn’t matter what ports you use it switches rapidly between them to make them all connected. You run a cable from the power line plug to the switch then a cable to each to device from the switch.

So a 5 port Ethernet switch will allow you to take a single connection and “split” it to 4 other devices.

Netgear make good switches and is what I use. Tplink is also good, they can be a bit cheaper.

Thanks Alex, have now bought a TPlink 5 switch, and the 'FireStick' adapter - hopefully that'll sort out my issues...

I was going to recommend a NetGear GS305 but TP are also good,

I'm currently using two Netgear GS308 and two GS305 on my CAT7 RJ45 network here it is in my attic;

My god, that's a real 'geek' installation, I'm jealous though I have no idea why becasue I haven't a clue what I'm looking at LOL This is what I bought, for a tenner I'm hoping it will do the job...

😂 I'm a bit OCD with cables, I've fitted terrestrial tv amplifier, distributor, 8 port sattelite splitter, triple port Virgin  media distribution box, a Lan router dedicated to each bedroom, I've run three separate RJ45 cables from the router downstairs allowing the ability to isolate a room if required, and a HDMI modulator which broadcasts the HDMI input on to a terrestrial channel where it can be viewed from any television, the black cage shelf is for a CCTV recorder which plugs in to the modulator for viewing on any television.

Hard drive stays safe in the attic unless required for retrieving data,

Sorry I'm just using your discussion as an opportunity to show it off as it's in my attic nobody ever gets to see it 🤷‍♂️

I'm planning to purchase a fire stick for the focus 😂 having installed a HDMI input and usb in the centre console to assist with self isolation at work already fitted tv tuner
