Ford Focus mk2 facelift sidelight burn

Featured Replies

Hi can anyone recommend a sidelight bulb which will not burn my headlights as am about to change the head light itself but don’t want white burn marks in the next 6 months above them in the plastic light

Sidelight bulbs are normally rated at 5W, and draw a very small current. Indeed if you use an LED bulb, the current is barely measurable. I must confess that I have never heard of any type of sidelight that would cause 'burn marks'?

Sidelight burn is quite common on the Mk2.5 as the bulbs sit so close to the lens.

I used some Phillips WhiteVision bulbs in mine without issue.  Tried some cheap LEDs but they only lasted a week...got replacements free of charge and they only lasted a week as well...admittedly no burn marks in that time!

Tom, I am done now using 'cheap' LED bulbs. Like you, have had plenty of experience of them lasting a 'week'! Only buy premium LEDs now, haven't had one go on me yet, and I replaced my sidelights same week I bought my current car over a year ago, and both still flicker free and working as they should. Although I am supremely 'cheap' in most things, cheap LEDs are a false economy LOL

Very rude of me, not answering your question! Like I said, stay away from cheap LEDs, buy premium. The heat output of an LED sidelight is negligible, so maybe something like this may be what you are looking for...

do you have the chrome style head lights ?

i do now and have had the bulb burn that you mention when i had blacl head head lights it never happened.im not sure what the cur is leds bulbs as mentioned seems good idea

After having this exact issue and getting new light units due to the bad burn on one and a broken wire on the other, I can highly recommend the Halfords LED 501 bulbs for being cool and solid WHITE and not blue. Pic attached, colour balance is way off but they're bright white, without being blinding, and come with a great warranty to boot. - Speaking of, they're awesome as boot lights (esp with a second light modded in!), footwell, and glovebox.
