jertum
Hi, hope you're all keeping well. I've seen a mk 6.5 Blue Edition that I'm thinking of getting: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202007010718130 Mileage is a little high but the price looks good - what do you think? Had my mk7 written off so this could potentially be a cheap replacement. Thanks
RO02THO
I had one of these and it was a great little car.
isetta
I don’t think the mileage is all that high. Partly depends how many miles you want to do. I would be wondering if timing belt has been replaced.
Kevin#95
As well as the timing belt you might want to check if the clutch has been replaced. If the clutch pedal bit point is high off the floor and feels stiff to press then it is the original clutch. My clutch started stipping at 80000 miles and when it was replaced the pedal bite pint was close to the floor and softer to press down. A timing belt and clutch replacement will set you back around £700. Might be worth spending that on a car with lower milage.
isetta
but even a lower mileage car of that age ought to have timing belt done. my fiesta mk6.5 which was owned by me and then my brother was on 165k when he stopped using it (due to ABS problem) , that was on original clutch with no sign of problems. Every car will have bits fail at different times due to luck or previous usage or care/servicing. You just can't tell, but one thing is for sure, mileage is not a good indicator of how long things might last.
TomsFocus
I've always thought the Blue Edition looked a little odd with 16s but standard suspension. Either needed chunkier tyres or lower springs...or both... £1500 seems quite a lot for it, should be able to get something similar for under a grand if you buy privately. I appreciate you may prefer the warranty and rights from a dealer though. I wouldn't trust any car to be trouble free at that age & mileage, but I'm generally unlucky with cars lol. I note one of the brake pipes was advised on the most recent MOT. Hopefully the rear brake pipes have been replaced by now. The Mk6 seems to have particularly bad brake pipes. I had a 2008 ST back in 2016 and the rear pipes were already shot on that even then!
Kevin#95
Good point. The car does look good and worth the money.
jertum
Thanks for your replies all. I'd not really considered the timing belt and clutch issues, so it's good to know about that. I've seen a couple of alternatives, if you wouldn't mind taking a look?: 2010 Zetec: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202006260544878 2007 Cimate: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202006300694870 There's a pretty big difference in price between them but I'm not sure if it's justified? I paid £3k for a 2010 Fiesta Edge back in 2017, so £3295 sees a lot to pay for a very similar car 3 years later. The 2007 Climate is obviously older - and not quite as pretty - but I'm wondering if it's the safer bet as it's had the timing belt & water pump changed etc.

Someone's trying their luck at that price! How on earth does an airbag get so filthy? Have you considered looking at anything other than over-priced poverty Fiesta's? There must be something considerably better about if you're willing to spend £3k!!
TomsFocus
Here you go! Super cheap to run, nothing to go wrong and you'll look super cool driving it! https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202005279576939

The resolution on my phone's pretty poor though. There's really not much about for under £3k around here. I've had Fiestas for years and always found them reliable, so I'm hesitant to go for the equivalent Renault, Hyundai etc. I need something cheap on insurance too. 10 minutes ago, TomsFocus said: Here you go! Think it'd end up being thrown in the canal round these parts though.
TomsFocus
Yeah, the wheel airbag is grim, covered in the same brown filth that the indicator stalk usually gets covered in...but I don't know why anyone would be frequently touching the airbag, or how they don't notice it and clean it! It's not just that though, the whole car looks pretty scruffy in all honesty. Oddly I've found Fiestas to be quite high on insurance compared to equivalents. Though I get the feeling you're probably a little older than me anyway, so insurance is likely to be cheap enough for anything similar. Fully appreciate you'd rather stick with what you know but you do get a lot more for your money with something like a Clio, can even see 12 plates near me for under £3.5k. TomsFocus
You may laugh at the 20bhp but it's got a better power to weight ratio than a 1.25 Fiesta!!

At 14 you can drive one of those in France. They are classed as a quadracycle.
jertum
Another poverty Fiesta to look at 😁: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202003218667258 Higher mileage but newer.

In fairness, that one looks pretty good. You would have to check the cambelt as it's not mentioned, but I'd prefer that one over the black one myself. It had scrapes all down each side and the front grill was completely shattered - it'd definitely been in some kind of collision. Can't believe they had the cheek to ask so much for it. I've found a nearby dealer that has good reviews and seems to specialise in Fiestas: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/dealers/west-yorkshire/liversedge/valley-road-motor-sales-10003133 His prices are a bit higher than I was hoping to pay, but his stock is mostly low mileage, FSH examples. The 2011 & 2012 Edge models look good but the 2010 Zetec has 5 doors, which could come in handy over the next couple of years. Which would you say offers the best value? If I was paying that much I'd want enough doors personally! I have a strong dislike of 3dr cars though...and steel wheels...the Edge spec really wasn't designed for me lol! If that's all you want though, there's no need to pay the extra or go older for a Zetec. Only thing is, if you intend to sell in a couple of years, the Zetec will hold a little more value and be of interest to more buyers.
