Focus 1.0 Ecoboost problematic noise

Featured Replies

Hello

Appreciate your help

I have a 2012 Focus Ecoboost with 90k miles and it's been an enjoyable car for the last few years

Then a few months ago a noise developed that hadn't been there before and it's difficult to describe but it's like a rough ticking/chugging noise and it can be heard more in the cab than under the bonnet.

Quick discussion with a Ford Manager suggested it could be a noisy fuel primer and nothing much else but it would need to be booked in for full investigation.

Local independent garage had a look and put it on the fault code machine and nothing showed and they couldn't see anything wrong

I haven't drove the car much in the last few months but the car has just had a full service and the noise is still there

I had a Ford Protect used warranty that has just run out and the car is booked in for investigation at the end of this month as no dates free prior to this

There is a small chance that Ford warranty will still cover the fault as I booked it in whilst still under warranty but that depends of course on what the diagnostic finds if anything

Has anyone any idea what the noise could be and if it's worth spending the money or a diagnostic when the car otherwise is fine and drives good with no obvious faults other than the noise.

Timing belt should not need changing for another couple of years and i would like to keep the car ideally

Without listening to the noise i appreciate its difficult but appreciate your advice

Thank you

Sounds like your injectors, but i would get this looked at first.

Thanks @Whizzy It's booked in at Ford later this  month for the diagnostic so presumably they would find it if it's the injectors ? is it an expensive job ?

thanks again

I'm not going ot lie, if it turns out to bet injectors then this wont be cheap i'm afraid
