Water sloshing sound when starting, ford fiesta mk6 2007

Hi, recently I've noticed a water sloshing around when I start the car. Seems to dissapear or go less noticeable after I start it. Read about it online and its due to air inside the system, meaning there is a leak somewhere. Checked the coolant reservoir, its below minimum marking. Engine temp is normal. I don't see any puddles of coolant underneath my car. Where could this leak be or where is a good place to start looking.

I had this on my last car. It ended up being a blown head gasket. My car never over heated but no matter how many times I topped the coolant up it went down. I ended up. Every time I heard the water I would top it up.

Get the system pressure tested.

I don't think its the head gasket, oil is the correct colour and there isnt any mis fires, smoke or anything that could indicate a blown head gasket.

Sure it's not the aircon?  That can gurgle too.

Good advice from Neil.

Pressure test each cylinder. One might have a split in the gasket allowing air on the compression stroke to be pushed into the water coolant. This will have a lower pressure when compared to the others.

I dont think it would be the aircon. I dont have aircon enabled as I start the car.

Any compression tester would work?

Worth checking the door drain holes (prod with a paperclip) I had a Fiesta that had water build up inside the door - once you star the car it may just not be noticable - even if its not its worth doing.

where are the drain holes located?

It'll probably be the coolant reservoir, they're prone to failure on the Mk6.

The cap will most likely want replacing too.

You need to look on the underside of the doors near the rubber seal on the inside - you'll see the drain holes - just prod them with an unbent paper clip

Update: Just flushed and filled the system with brand new coolant. While i was underneath taking the hose off to flush the system, I saw that my oil pan screws are stained pink, i looked up and the thermostat is leaking, not a lot, I would say I lost about 500ml of coolant over 3 months. How hard is the thermostat to replace?

The coolant reservoir is okay, it holds pressure.

Might put some rad weld to see how that goes.

Edit: Just looked it up and it possibly is the thermostat housing which needs replacing.
