Paint code advice?

Hi guys,

Noticed on my second hand focus the other day  some paint chipping down the drivers & back door on the edge, pictured. It’s magnetic grey & I’ve looked into possibly getting a touch up kit like this one https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-repair/scratch-repair-and-paint-restorers/halfords-ford-magnetic-grey-scratch-and-chip-repair-kit-325430.html but I checked the door jam & the paint code seems to be BJ but I can’t find info on this anywhere 😕 & don’t know if this would suffice.. also how difficult is it to sort out these with these kits?

thanks

Hi, Put your reg or vin number in here and it will tell you name of paint colour on R'H side.

Says magnetic so it's magnetic grey. Weird though cos mines says panther black the full color name.

Its stupid that ford do colours with names that can be confused, but I'd go with whatever it says on ETIS.

'Ford' is the only car I have ever owned where you can't read a simple paint code on a VIN plate to buy touch up paint. I often wonder why they have a policy of making it so dam aggravating to find out such a common bit of information...

I have the same colour.

Asked the dealer for a touch up kit when I purchased the car.

Hope the pics might help.

Don’t start me on ford paint codes, trying to get spirit blue mixed and matched is a nightmare!

Then the paint code for the factory snow flake alloys is just stupid... ah the joys!

Thanks! I have someone picking up a touch up tomorrow at a local car store that mixes to your VIN number but I don’t think the second bottle is included, is that lacquer? Would I need it?

By it's very nature, lacquer is not colour specific so any bottle of it will do. In decades of touching up paint on cars, I've never used it, but there'll be guys on here will be wincing at me saying that, and telling you it's critical!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have spent hours today going in circles to get paint for my car. At least its reassuring that its not just me! But still no further forward....
