Handbrake handle

Featured Replies

Good morning. Has anyone fitted an aftermarket handle in their car please? How hard is it to remove the ZS handbrake handle and replace it with the following please?

Pull the handbrake gaitrr back and use a block of wood and a hammer to hit the grip to knock it off.
Either that or cut along the top of the grip with a stanley knife or a dremel then pry off with a screwdriver.
It's held on with two plastic lugs that hook into the handle.
As to fitting the new grip- can't advise as when I did it to a previous car I swapped a standard plastic one for an oem Ford Zetec S one.

I've done this only once, on my car 40 odd years ago. It was a ***** of a job, and 10 minutes in I so wish I hadn't 't bothered. Car was a Datsun 120Y, no internet/YouTube for help. I do remember using a Stanley knife forever to cut off the plastic grip handle. I did eventually get the aftermarket handle on. It was some kind of metal 'rally' thing, but it never really seated properly, and was always a disaster. Still, it got it firmly out of my system never to mess again with a handbrake lever LOL

You'll regret fitting a metal grip...you'll never be able to release the handbrake on sunny days!
