Tailgate Rattling Part

Good evening,

I am the really happy owner of an 2019 ST-Line Kuga.  I had a Kuga previously, loved it so much that I swopped it for a 'prestige brand equivalent'. After a week I begged the dealer to swop me back; I could rant for an hour about the design aberrations in that bag o' bolts and never repeat myself.  I stuck it 9 months and changed back.  I just love this Kuga.  (Yeah, I know: "Loved it so much I changed...".  "Well, the drugs wore off, y'see.")

I digress: A few days ago I noticed that as I open or close the tailgate it would rattle at the start and end of the open or close.  Clearly there was something loose and rattling in the offside corner.  I removed the grab handle and could squirm my skinny arm in enough to grab the article.

Everything works normally, but would anyone who has actually seen behind the panels be able to confirm what it was that was rattling around?  The 'bakelite-type' end has clearly broken off something.  There is no part number on the grey moulding.  Just wondering if it is a non-essential part that was not removed on assembly, or should I start stripping the panels off to fix something.

Thanks for your help,

Alan

(I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about this, and I thought, "Someone's bound to say 'Easy - it's a biro'...")
