Battery drain on Mk 2.5 Ford Focus - sell?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I have a Mk 2.5 2009 Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi.  Back in April/May the radio started working intermittently and then, after a week when I didn't drive the car, I tried to start it but the battery was totally flat.  RAC said the battery needed to be replaced and that there was also a drain on the battery.  I took it to a garage who replaced the battery but swore blind that there was no electrical drain.

Last weekend, the radio was not working again and when I locked the car the dashboard display screen would not shut down like it usually does.  It is possible it had been doing that for some time too.  Today, when I came to start the car, the battery was dead again.

It seems clear that there is a drain on the battery.  I don't have the tools or expertise to identify what the issue might be or how to fix it.  My question is whether this is something that a garage is likely to charge a lot to deal with?  The other issue is that it is an older diesel car and I love in London and will be within the ULEZ when it is extended in 2021 so I am already aware I need to sell the car quite soon.  Should I just sell the car to a dealer now and be done with it (i.e. am I likely to spend more on fixing the issue than I would lose just selling)?  I think I can probably get it started in order to drive to the dealer.

Thanks for the advice!

I've got this problem too along with many other people and I can't believe no-one has a fix for it not even the garages!! So frustrating
