Hi I'm trying to clear soot out of my car due to black smoke. I have added cleaner to the system but I was also looking at giving it do beens italian tune on the motorway. I know the engine needs to be hot but has anyone done this and what revs should I drive at and for how long?

Prior to this, have you replaced the air filter and fuel filter recently? They may need doing to if it's been a while.

OK just googled change fuel filter. If that needs doing off to the local garage it goes lol. I can cope with the air filter lol

I would leave the fuel filter if you've not done one yourself. As for driving it to clear smoke, I normally accelerate hard in 3rd gear to the limiter then slow down to do it again a few times. That normally does the trick when we have a smokey diesel for mot emmisions testing.

OK cool I will give that a go. I have done it a few times on slip road upto motorway but only for a few seconds. Will do for a bit longer

Twisty backroads work well too, gives the brakes a good hammering as well as the engine...I always have a thrash through the backroads before MOT...no smoke and no sticky calipers so far.
