Cigarette 12v socket staying on

Good evening 馃檪

Read a few topics but I just wanted to clarify something.

My 2020 Fiesta Titanium cigarette socket appears to stay on long after the car has turned off and been locked.聽

Recently installed a Next base 322CW dashcam and had to enable park mode to get it to use less power when parked, I belive the only way to get around this is install a fuse hardwire kit. Using the USB in the arm wrest area asks if I want to transfer files or power on so that won't work.

When running the fuse kit, any suggestions for which one to get? All I need to do is fine a live fuse when ignition is on and dead when ignition is off, replace that fuse with the kit one and connect to a cigarette lighter. Or am I missing something?

When fitting the hardwire kit you'll have a piggyback fuse connector. With this it converts your chosen fuse slot into 2 so you don't have to run a wire to the cigarette lighter.

This is a good guide for fitting -

You basically need a switched live fuse and a hard wire kit with fuse piggyback. You won't need a 12v socket and connector, the kit replaces the complete power lead.聽

Choose a switched live fuse that does not serve any of the main safety features of the car, for example air bags or abs etc. The rear wiper fuse is usually a good bet.聽

With the Nextbase specialist kit you get everything you need for 拢20, and if you also wire to a permanent live (you don't have to) you can enable parking mode but set the camera to switch off if the battery dips to 12v or another preset voltage.聽

If using a piggyback then you need to replace the original fuse into the piggyback and a new fuse to complete the circuit to the camera.

I have mine off the rear wiper fuse, piggy back fuse with a in-line fuse onto a 4 x聽 way 12v power cigi/2 u.s.b it's a protected/overload unit which runs off ignition.

Done it this way as then i can have usb or cigi option and use other stuff off the ignition which i have done a rear camera as well.

Had it working for 3 years and no problem with 2 dash cams.

Jonro............How do you mean interfear with ABS as sure they test ABS when MOT'd and also i have tested it in this ice and traction control all fine.

Just curious.

I'm curious as to why you have a piggy-back fuse, followed by an inline fuse?聽

This whole "chose a non-safety circuit" is a load of rubbish really. If you install the piggyback fuse correctly, with an appropriately rated fuse then a fault with the dash cam would never blow the fuse for any other circuit.聽If it does then then you've melted the fuse carrier in the fusebox. In which case blowing the fuse for the airbags would be the least of your worries...

It's more of a safety thing\peace of mind. There are lots of people who don't have a clue what they're doing when it comes to a piggyback, you can buy them everywhere now. How many people doing this know which is the 'hot' side of the fuse box and how you should orientate the fuse holder?聽

As you said "If you install the piggyback fuse correctly" then there should be no problem, I just don't trust that everybody knows what they are doing.

The fuse was built into the lead and working fine so just left it, so it wasn't put in for safety at all as the piggy-back was in.

Hope you get it sorted ....Sly

So, after watching some YouTube videos, it looks absolutely "*****" too install haha, excuse the French!

I just need to check with Nextbase if they must send me the micro2 fuses for my two Fiesta's or if the ones that come in their hardwire kit will work fine, anyone know perhaps?聽

The nextbase hardwire kit only comes with mini and full size fuse taps. You have to request the micro2 fuses taps from Nextbase directly.

Nextbase aren't the only company you can get these from, there's loads on amazon, eBay etc. that already include the micro fuse tap to save you messing around emailing Nextbase customer services.

To my knowledge both the mk6 and mk7 fiesta use the mini type fuses.

I would of thought the socket would turn off on the new fiesta after a few seconds like the focus does,my mate's focus zetec s 2014 turns off after i think 20 or so seconds but might be wrong.

The Mk5.5 mondeo stays on for 75minutes after the engine is turned off, so did my MK3.5 focus

You mean the mk6 and mk8 use the micro, not the mini? Or does my mk6 use mini and the mk8 use micro2?聽

So my MK8 does after a bit of time but I want to kill the camera as soon as the ignition is turned off.聽
