Mk4 into Mk3 Seat swaps runner change over

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have a 2012 Estate, Titanium. I've managed to get a set of 2017 Seats, half leather, in virtually new condition, took a little risk as out of a hatchback (but then saw guides how to swop rear brackets so will fit hurrah). I did measure the front seat slider rail centre's before purchasing, which were the same as mine, so thought should fit. Anyhow just removed passenger put "new " one in position, and noooo, the left hand rail has an offset fixing so sits some 35mm left of where the original seat bolts down. I thought ok just remove the bottom half of the "slider" adjustment rail (the bit that bolts to the car floor)  and swop with mine, I knew it would have some limiter to stop it sliding completely off the upper rail, but i cannot see it or how it stops the rail. There are two bolts about 1/3rd along the rail, where the adjustment lever cable connects so i whipped these out, but it sorta locked the rails, I've since replaced these. I do believe they are something to do with it, they have some sort of fixed castle-ated nut type thing inside the rail but even with a torch you cant see enough to make out what's happening. I've put my original seat back, and had a real good look at the replacement, but to no avail, I just cant see how to remove / split the rail, anyone know? You cant unbolt the whole lot as they are secured from above and i really don't want into removing the seat covers etc. Anyone done this rather random thing?

cheers

John

Focus Mk4 Seats into a Mk3 # they are narrower - I just wanted to update but couldn't see how to edit, hence my own reply. I sorted this, but differently. I could not find a way to remove / separate the sliders, so removed the whole subframe, which once done is easy. It involves separating the backrest from the base, 4 x hex's in total after removing the seat base covers and rebuilding a mk3 base, with Mk4 foam and cover. the mk4 back simply bolts on. You have seat sensor, seat belt sensor and airbag connectors to deal with, but simple and logical. The connectors for these won't simply plug in, as (1) the cradle / basket? / whatever its called that they sit in on the seat are different between the Mk3 and Mk4, so I did not use but plugged the connectors direct into the car's loom (hope that makes sense). On I think the seat occupancy sensor the connector colours are different also, but the shape is the same and fit - and everything works with no warning lights. Removing the seat base cover was easy, once separated I flipped it over on the floor, and put my body weight on it near the retaining "clips", which releases the upholstery's tension and makes easy to unclip, ditto in reverse on re-assembly. So the front seats are in, in fantastic condition not worn, firm , supportive comfortable - transforms the feel - not that my Titanium seats were noticeably worn these feel so much better, so just to swop the rear bench that'll be easier? noooo its 75mm narrower, too much to do anything with, absolutely gutted.
