Ah gotcha! will look into that soon then! May just wait until I drop a puma engine in to do that though and make it worth getting. When are you planning on putting your sports cat on?

In all fairness I do not know for sure, I have debts that need clearing, have just started a new job so hopefully not too long away. I think I will get the exhaust system bought before fitting the cat and get it all done together, save time and money/effort. Could possibly fit the exhaust system myself but not too sure about the cat as it is in a position where snapped bolts would be a hideous thing to deal with. It's not like I can remove the engine and get it fitted that way as I have not got the knowhow or tools for that option.

ah its probably best to get it all fitted at once! I've managed to source an engine and all the bits to go with! messaged the fella about it and just waiting for a reply

right! so i've secured a puma engine!!! comes with all the bits i need to do the swap and has about 60k miles on its clock!

Silly question but will my current analog odometer still be okay or is it possible to convert this to digital?

I am no expert sleepy but I assume you could probably swap the odometer, pretty much anything would be possible with the right engineer/mechanic. 60k engine sounds a good option.

my current engine and Shell is almost on 50k so it's not a massive jump in miles! i know some models of my fez came with digital and others with analog so i was just assuming a straight swap

was just thinking, may have to upgrade my breaks! was thinking a pair of st170 breaks since i've seen people swap them to that before! any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure I've got enough clearance for the st170 calipers since I sized up my wheels from the stock ones! If not then I'll source some st150's. Anything is better than what I'm running now lol

I was going to do that on my mk6 but the 15" alloys are too small to accommodate for the extra size. The discs would fit inside but with the calipers it looks doubtful. If they will fit inside your wheels, the extra size would improve braking, why not go ahead. The st170 front are 300mm and rear are 280mm. If that was an issue you could always put some st150 brakes on it. I must admit I am unsure whether they would be a direct fitment, i know they will fit the mk6 but not sure about yours. The st170 calipers carrier bolts are a larger size and some modification of the front hubs would be needed. I saw some very good condition front calipers on ebay too, were very good as apposed to some that were being offered.

I saw someone did st220 calipers with st170 pads and discs so that's an option too

think I can keep my rears as drums or look into converting them to discs too? read st150's would fit on the rears

What size wheels do you have buddy? You should be safe with 16", another member here did the conversion with 16's. I literally am short of around 1cm space to allow and I am using 15".

I'm running 16's at the moment, they fez originally had 13's on so it was a very nice change.

That's awesome, I couldn't imagine having 13" wheels, 15's are quite small to me after having 17" fox race alloys on my older car. You will be safe with the 16" for the brake conversion. Depending on how much you want to spend, I have somewhere you can get the 300mm discs, pads and callipers that are new or an ebay link for used callipers and discs. The differences in price is quite large. I think the ebay good, used callipers are £89 and the brand new /remanufactured kit is over £300.

Would you be able to link me both?

Don't quote me on this but I think you might have an issue, if you get caught. Moving from one lockdown zone to another, especially if the two areas are on a different lockdown tier. For example moving from say a tier 4 area to a lower tier area, you can get a nasty fine. I can't comment on any other condition, although motor spares companies are still open as they are classed as essentials, so you can always argue the case with that in mind.

I think I'll play it safe and wait until the march review before picking it up! May have to put down a little more on the holding deposit but it'll be worth it in the end

Planning on doing some bits to the engine before getting it fitted, was thinking a lightened flywheel and a new clutch, and then giving some parts a paint/powder coat to make the whole engine and gearbox look fresh!

You can't go wrong with a fly wheel, they add a few extra hp to the engine and replacing the clutch seems a good idea also as it's in the same vicinity. There are some decent performance clutches on the market, black diamond do stage 1, 2, 3, for different power bands, I guess it depends if you want to add a lot more extra power once you have the engine in. I would expect you would be able to get many, many performance upgrades for the puma, but just remember insurance is a killer for heavily modded cars.

At the moment, I'm only looking to add a little extra power so stage 1 should be enough for me! I've found somewhere near me that would do stage 1 remapping on the car once it's all done! Any idea how much extra power I'd be looking at?? Stock puma has 123bhp I think.

This is what superchips offer for the puma, which is an ecu chip not exactly a remap.

I checked a remap garage for their take on it and it seems that they offer the same 13 bhp on a stage 1 remap. 13 hp isn't bad, and the new 136hp figure is nearly st150 performance. You will probably get slightly more with the flywheel added.

sound's good! the fez will still be my daily so that's a nice amount of power compared to the 59hp I have now! more than double lol! Honestly so excited to be getting this done now!

Right, so! was checking out some different options for upgrading the front brakes and I think going to go with the ST150 brakes from pumaspeed. They seem like they'll do the job and all I now need to do is find the calipers for them.

Also, what is the difference between the stage 1 brake upgrade kit and the stage 2 one? as far as I can see, the stage 2 include calipers and the stage 1 does not

Have made a list of all the bits that need doing to my fez! got a long way to go but it'll all be worth it in the end.
