DaveT70
I believe it's for crash, to control the deformation of the doors on major frontal impact (so they don't pop basically)
BarryT
Hmm, crash deformation! Unlikely. I'm pretty sure that is the switch pedestal for your door courtesy switches. You can adjust the depth it contacts with the door. Anyone else got a better answer?

Yes, a better answer is, it really is for crash and the courtesy lights are controlled by the sensors in the latch. You can remove them if you don't believe me, your risk. The more the car buckles, the more the pin/stud pushes into the door to prevent the car from buckling further in that place sending the force of the impact away from the cockpit. Cortinas had pin switches on the A posts for courtesy lights
