Engine commonality.

Featured Replies

I have a 1.6 pet. with a water damaged engine. I also have a 1.6 pet. bare block in good condition. Can I use the block to rebuild the damaged engine. ( the block of the damaged engine is is holed!)

Only if both engines are the exact same type and the engine codes are compatible.

Well yes that is obvious. I suppose my question is, really, if I have the same block (ie they are both 1.6 blocks)

why would Ford bother to cast differing blocks. Surely the basic blocks would be the same? It would only be the ancilleries,

head and electronics which would vary depending on the model?

The displacement of the engine does not say anything. Ford performed many technical changes during production of the 1.6 Sigma engine. In 2005 Ford even changed from a closed deck engine design to an open deck engine design. These engines are technically different and not directly interchangeable.

To determine whether the engines you have are interchangeable or not the engine codes need to be compared.
