clararosa94
This probably doesn't apply to you US guys since the mondeo was never sold there (not sure if the fusion is the same). I found a really well maintained one owner mondeo for a really good price. Looks and drives like new. Has the 2.0tdci engine, it's is bit of a lumpy engine but has decent power. Has run 170000km and has followed every service. I think it's a lot of car for the money and it rode surprisingly well. Very quiet and planted on the road. From the research i've done the injectors can go bad and the turbo is a weak point. I figure it's okay since it's been so well maintained (the seller is an engineer and mentionted every tiny repair he had done to the car). Anyone got anything good or bad to say about this motor? Frembrit
What year is it? 170000km is about 106000 miles so the timing belt is due either at 125000 miles or 10 years (whichever is sooner) Other things that can fail/wear out are the top strut bushes/bearings and the rear trailing arm bushes. Pre facelift cars (before early 2011) seemed to suffer more from steering rack issues and electrical drain on the battery. I'm not knowledgeable on diesels or the 2.0 but for information purposes (so others may help), what do you mean by "it's is bit of a lumpy engine"? is it running lumpy or lumpy compared to another diesel? Robert Tierney
Regarding battery draining. Have had my Mondeo for 13 years - since start of the Mk 4. For the first 10 years the battery would go flat [down to 2.5 volts] sometimes in a very short time [4 hrs] every so often - did it 4 times in the 10 years. Sent the car to an auto electrical specialist who after a week diagnosed a faulty door module. Total charge was reasonable about £120. Changed that and not been a problem again [yet !!]. However, do note that when recharging a battery that is that flat yourself it must be done slowly. Fortunately, I have a constant current charger and set this at 5 amps. Alternatively lengthen the cable between the charter and battery using a 2 amp mains cable by about 20ft. This will drop the current and voltage at the battery sufficiently to avoid the battery overheating and slowly bring the battery to full charge. Running the engine is likely to overheat the battery. Piers
They are great engines. After that much mileage the turbo/injectors might be a bit grubby so stick a bottle of archoil 6400 dmax in the diesel tank which works wonders and cleans the fuel injectors/turbo etc.
007 Mondeo
Hi Change the battery to the new Bosh Mondeo Hybrid, its smaller and far better than the standard, change the injectors for Jaguar Land Rover, put Shell advanced in the tank which will clean the system, change the fuel filter for a British diesels, put a synthetic oil in the engine. Mark M
The hybrid battery you have fitted, I'm assuming it still has the CCA rating high enough to start a non-hybrid car and has the AH capacity suitable for the car. I only as Hybrids 12v batteries like you're describing aren't designed to supply the high load (CCA) needed to crank an old school combustion engine over. And Shell fuel is overpriced IMO. I've run BP fuel and Tesco fuel for years with zero problems, Mrs has used Sainsburys diesel for over a decade with 0 problems as well.
