The text on the 6000cd radio screen is not visible (Ford Focus 2010)

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

The text on the 6000cd Radio screen is not visible (Ford Focus 2010) but Radio works i can hear music. It is important for me to see the Screen in order to use CD songs, Bluetooth, memorize radio channels etc.

Please help me....

A Low Level 6000CD audio system is not worth both the effort and money to repair.

I suggest to buy yourself a replacement. There are loads of these audio systems on Ebay for little money (cheaper than repairing your own radio).

Here here... I bought myself a replacement unit in mint condition just before Christmas for the grand sum of £20..,. (Make sure it comes with the code!)

Quick question... I've just had the Blaupunkt TravelPilot FX fail in my 2009 Focus Titanium.  Typically the unit is one that should have been replaced under the recall/replacement extended warranty that expired in 2015! Ah well, such is life when owning a second-hand motor.
Anyhoo... is it relatively straightforward to replace the TravelPilot with something like a 6000CD audio unit?  Is there much that needs doing with regards to reconfiguring the wiring and plugs?

First of all there never was a recall for the Travelpilot FX. There only was an extended warranty from Bosch/Blaupunkt that included some particular part numbers and defect symptoms. Ford basically had nothing to do with this extended warranty.

The 6000CD is basically plug and play in your car. In some cases you may need an antenna adapter because there are different types of 6000CD radio's. However be aware that the 6000CD does not support USB or Bluetooth Audio. If your car currently has USB and Bluetooth Audio you will loose this functionality when a 6000CD is installed.

Yep, I was rushing when I was typing and got my facts in a twist regarding the "ownership" of the extended warranty.  The symptoms and part numbers, manufacture date, etc., place my unit square in the middle of replacement territory - I guess the original owner of the car never had a problem with it so there was never the need to consider it for replacement, which is a shame.

I suspect I'm probably better off fitting one of the later Sony units as I do have USB functions.  Is a Sony unit likely to be a straightforward plug-and-play situation too do you know?

Apologies to Rexhep, didn't mean to rob or divert your thread mate.

In your case a Sony radio is definitely the best choice if you want to keep the USB and Bluetooth Audio functionality. A GEN3 Sony radio will basically also also be plug and play. In some cases you may need an antenna adapter but all other connectors are identical.

I would recommend to buy a single CD GEN3 Sony radio. The 6-CD versions usually have problems with the CD-changer mechanism (a know trick to prevent these issues is to leave the top CD empty).

Be aware that the older GEN2 Sony radio's may look identical to the GEN3 versions but are technically different. The older GEN2 Sony radio's are based on the old 1st generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system and are not compatible with your car's 2nd generation Bluetooth/Voicecontrol system. Whether the radio is a GEN2 or a GEN3 radio can only be determined by the part number and production date of the radio.

Brilliant, thanks very much for the pointers, very much appreciated mate. 👍
This looks as though it might be the beast you're refering too --> 8M5T-18C939-LD
You wouldn't happen to know whether, and where, there's a table or list detailing the various part numbers by any chance?

A quick update for anyone with similar problems that stumbles over this thread... I got an 8M5T-18C939-LD thru eBay and it works a treat as a replacement for the Travelpilot that failed on me.
Thanks very much for the advice JW1982. 👍
