Hi I have a 06 Ford Focus, battery was dead the other morning used jumper cables and it started again drove about .5 kilometre down the road and stopped at traffic lights engine cut out battery seemed dead again but there was a strange whirring sound coming from the center console and a clicking noise like a solenoid trying to connect from under passenger side dash. Got it jumped again but only runs for about 40 secs and then cuts out again. Any ideas what could be wrong or has anyone had similar problems.

 

Check the simple things like battery and alternator using a multimeter before you dive in trying to solve funny noises.
